Jen Maxfield is an experienced media trainer who has coached dozens of young journalists and professionals. As a television news reporter and adjunct professor at Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism, she uses her two decades of experience to help other people to achieve their full potential. Whether it’s crafting a speech for a conference, being interviewed on live television, or producing a creative stand-up, Maxfield is able to provide her expert guidance towards the right solutions.

Maxfield’s passion is helping young reporters launch their broadcast careers in entertainment. As a Video 1 instructor, she enjoys working with students during interactive workshops as they approach writing and reporting for broadcast for the first time. She appreciates her ongoing relationships with students after graduation and is always urging Columbia J-School alums to “send me links!” so she can keep up with their work. Maxfield also provides career advice and guidance as her former students are progressing through their careers. Her former students and interns are currently working in television markets all over the country, including Albuquerque, Sacramento, Binghamton, Greenville, Rochester, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, and the White House.

A dedicated media communication coach, Maxfield’s academic experience has also proved useful when she is guiding other professionals with public speaking, when they want to convey their message clearly and cohesively in front of a live audience. Her advice has helped clients feel more comfortable and confident in front of the camera to get their compelling message across.
