Bobcat Device Falls Through New Jersey Foot Bridge, Smashes Van on Highway Below
Photos from the scene showed the front of the white van completely crushed, its hood and windshield smashed like an accordion.
A Bobcat skid-steer loader clearing snow off a foot bridge in New Jersey somehow plunged through the span onto the highway below, smashing into a van, according to authorities and photos from the scene.
Both drivers were taken to hospitals in unknown condition; it wasn’t clear if there were passengers in either vehicle. The accident, on Route 208 northbound near Utter Avenue, was reported around noon Monday.
It’s not clear how the machine, which weighs more than 2 tons, fell through the bridge. Photos from the scene showed the front of the white van completely crushed, its hood and windshield smashed like an accordion. The loader was seen flipped on its side on the road.
Traffic was shut down in the area. The investigation is ongoing.
